Black Drum Gyotaku – Destin, Florida

Fresh back from an unforgettable trip to Destin, Florida, this piece tells the story of a wild Gulf adventure. Fishing with Captain Dan of Destin Inshore Charters, I brought out the Ballista Crossbow and landed a stunning 35+ pound black drum right off the downtown piers. After a couple of close calls, I finally got the big one—and that’s when the art began. Working alongside a fellow Gyotaku artist, we captured this fish the traditional Japanese way, transferring its natural form and texture directly onto paper. After three tries, we got a perfect print.

Back home in Maine, I hand-finished the eye for depth and detail, and built a custom frame from reclaimed barn boards. This is a one-of-a-kind piece—full of character, story, and raw Gulf Coast beauty. The framed dimensions are 45" x 25.5", and the fish itself measures 37" x 16", making it a bold, unforgettable centerpiece. Whoever takes this home is getting more than art—they’re taking home the memory of the catch and the spirit of the coast.

May the best bidder win.

Lobster love connection

Thank you for your lobster shirt. Thanks for carrying larger size shirts most places stop at 2X ( I need a few more Xs). Anyway my wife and I used to play a game of hiding a rubber lobster to scare each other, hiding in the freezer, underwear drawers, shower or anywhere else we could think of. This lobster shirt brings back those wonderful memories, because I lost my wife to Covid 19 thanksgiving of 2020. Thank you for helping me remember those days of lobster love connections.
