FOWLER'S BIO
Growing up in Vermont before the age of smartphones and high-speed internet meant spending a lot of my youth outside. As the son of a carpenter, I developed an early love for building and hands-on learning, which led to my move to Maine at the age of 21 to build wooden boats. After over a decade in the trade, I began to grow restless, building other people’s dreams and watching them sail away. The majority of my spare time was spent off-grid, living in the Maine woods and studying old books on survival and homesteading, so I could maintain my own tiny piece of wild property. When the TV show Naked and Afraid came out, I found myself thinking, “I could do that.” But truthfully, I was a bit afraid of the naked bit. Not long after, History Channel launched a new show called, Alone. I applied to the show and was accepted! Before I knew it, I was on my way to spending what turned out to be 87 days surviving by myself in the wilderness of Patagonia, eating only 63 fish and 2 birds. I emerged from this enormous challenge 73 pounds lighter and the winner of Season 3 of History Channel’s Alone, marking the beginning of a new chapter in my life.
Fowler's Makery and Mischief
After receiving my prize money from the show, I invested in the same camera equipment I had on Alone and began producing content for YouTube. My goal was to change careers and become a full-time content creator, making videos of my outdoor adventures, and leave the boatbuilding world behind. It was slow at first. My time on television provided some notoriety, which helped build my first 5000 subscribers. The rest would require a lot of hard work and perseverance, filming videos and editing late into the night, striving to consistently post once a week, while also building the website for my business, which I would name Fowler’s Makery and Mischief. By the end of the first year, I had grown the YouTube channel to 100k subscribers! Between the video revenue and website sales, I was finally earning a livable paycheck doing what I love. I was going to be able to keep making adventures for a living. Fast forward to now: it’s been over 7 years and I’m no longer doing all the work alone. I’ve built a team of hard-working, creative individuals like myself, who help me produce, shoot, and edit content for five channels and run a successful online store, where we sell a variety of products that focus on helping people enjoy their own outdoor adventures. We work hard, but we have a lot of fun and look forward to bringing you new and exciting videos across our channels, each week.
Fowler’s enthusiasm for the outdoors and strong work ethic was proven when he applied for and won History Channel’s “Alone” show, where he survived for 87 days in Patagonia, eating only 63 fish and 2 birds. After winning the show, Fowler chose to start his own Youtube channel where he could reach an audience and share his appreciation and knowledge of the great outdoors through video series such as the “30 Day Survival Challenge” and “Trick-Shot-Tuesday”.
